No, you do not need a referral to see a nutritionist.
Everyone is welcome at Nourish Your Health! Julia is happy to give advice on nutrition, lifestyle and treatments whether to treat an illness or to support general health and wellbeing.
Which conditions can Nutritional Medicine help with?
Whether you suffer from chronic disease, have an acute condition or just don’t feel 100%, Nutritional Medicine can be of great benefit. It is a natural and non-invasive form of medicine and may work as alternative or in conjunction with mainstream medicine. Conditions that may benefit from nutritional medicine treatment include:
Digestive complaints and disorders – IBS, bloating, reflux, constipation, diarrhoea, food intolerances, Candida, Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis
Chronic illness – cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes mellitus, arthritis
Poor immunity – frequent infections, cold sores, allergies
Hormonal imbalances – PMS, endometriosis, PCOS, acne, thyroid disease
General health – stress and fatigue, headaches, anxiety, poor sleep, detox, weight management
Family health – optimising fertility, pregnancy support, infant health, children and teenage nutrition
Can I see a nutritionist if I am also seeing a doctor?
Yes absolutely! Good nutrition is the foundation of good health! Diet optimisation and nutritional supplementation can be very useful in supporting or complementing conventional medical treatment, especially for chronic diseases. Julia practises evidence-based nutritional medicine and is well trained in the interaction between nutritional supplements and pharmaceutical drugs so you can feel confident discussing your nutritional treatment plan with your doctor.
Julia is happy to work as part of your health care team to ensure you receive the best care possible.
What do I bring to my first appointment?
After booking your first consultation, you will receive an email with a questionnaire and 3 day diet diary enabling you to provide a detailed history of your health including all medications, supplements, eating habits and health goals. You can also download these forms from the Download section on our website. Please bring them with you for your first appointment. It is recommended you bring along copies of any recent medical test results if you have access to them (if applicable).
What type of testing is available?
Julia will look for specific signs and symptoms that may indicate certain nutrient imbalances. ‘In clinic’ tests or referrals for standard blood tests may be used to get a greater understanding of your nutrient status. If further investigation is required, Julia may refer for functional pathology testing which can provide valuable insight and help to improve your outcome (e.g. Food Intolerance Test, Adrenal Stress Profile, Heavy Metal Hair Mineral Analysis).
Which health funds offer rebates for nutrition consultations?
The following private health funds offer rebates for nutrition consultations:
- GU Health
- Australian Unity
- Teachers Union Health
- Some corporate health funds / corporate schemes
Please check your level of cover with your health fund to find out if you are eligible for a rebate.

Qualification and registration are extremely important in the Natural Health Care Industry especially in our digital age where we are confronted with a dizzying and often confusing amount of nutritional information from various sources. It assures you that you receive the best health advice from a well-trained practitioner and also protects you as the customer by providing a Code of Conduct that registered practitioners need to abide by.
Julia holds an Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine, registration with the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (www.atms.com.au) as an accredited member (ATMS # 27341), all required professional insurances and a current senior first aid certificate.
